What services does your organization provide?
St. Joe's offers acute care, ambulatory and out-patient services, emergency department and complex residential care.


Do you have any age requirements?
For the youth program, Grade 8. For the adult program, 19.


Do you require language proficiency other than in English?
No.


What time commitment(s) are you expecting from a volunteer?
Three hours per week for at least six months. For students who are only available for the summer, we can make special arrangements.


Are there any other requirements for being a volunteer?
Comfortable in a hospital setting, with people who have health challenges.


Are there any specific skills and experience required?
No.


What type of volunteer positions are typically available?
Admin, Cancer Care, Cataract Clinic, Daycare, Emergency, Information Desk, Screening Mammography, and a wide variety of activity assistance in residential care.


Is there any training provided for volunteers?
Volunteers are provided with both a general hospital orientation and training specific to their position in the hospital.


What are the typical volunteer activities occurring at your organization?
Volunteers are involved in the daily routines of the hospital. The includes patient reception and comfort, visiting, administrative tasks, minor stocking and organizational duties, a variety of activities with the frail elderly, including those with dementias.


How will a person benefit from volunteering with St Joseph's General Hospital?
Volunteers gain insight into the daily routines of a hospital, some develop strong relationships with those in residential care, and they gain satisfaction from extending a caring hand to those dealing with difficult and stressful health conditions.


Do you accept high school students?
Yes. We have a strong youth volunteer program.
