What services does your organization provide?
Long term care centre, supportive living centres, family health clinic and mobile x-ray facilities.


Do you have any age requirements?
Can volunteer with a parent or guardian at age 12 or under, age 14 to 18 - junior volunteers; over 18 - adult volunteers.


Do you require language proficiency other than in English?
Other languages are always a benefit for our volunteers but not required.


What time commitment(s) are you expecting from a volunteer?
As little as 2 hours a month or as many as 2-4 hours every day.


Are there any other requirements for being a volunteer?
Fill out application, pass a background check, two reference checks.


Are there any specific skills and experience required?
Need to be strong enough to push a wheelchair and assist others using walkers and have patience plus a liking of working with seniors.


What type of volunteer positions are typically available?
We utilize volunteers in almost every area - kitchen for meal prep and service; many recreational activities, assistance with church services, visiting/reading to residents, some clerical, some laundry work, some cleaning work, special events i.e. monthly birthday parties, assisting in therapeutics & exercises.


Is there any training provided for volunteers?
Usually one on one training and always working with a staff member until fully trained.


What are the typical volunteer activities occurring at your organization?
Recreation programs need the most assistance.


How will a person benefit from volunteering with St Michael's Health Group?
Good training for employment. Exercise, making friends, expanding knowledge of elderly, general socialization with other volunteers.


Do you accept high school students?
Yes - often.
