What services does your organization provide?
The Learning Centre Literacy Association offers free reading, writing, math and other literacy opportunities to adults in Edmonton, Alberta.


Do you have any age requirements?
Volunteers must be over the age of 16 years old.


Do you require language proficiency other than in English?
No.


What time commitment(s) are you expecting from a volunteer?
2.5 hours a week.


Are there any other requirements for being a volunteer?
We also ask all new volunteers to complete an Edmonton Police check - but we will walk you through the process.


Are there any specific skills and experience required?
Desirable Knowledge and Skills:
Excellent command of English language, both written and oral.
Reliable, flexible and professional.
Analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
Strong interpersonal, and relationship building skills
Ability to set boundaries.
Openness to continued learning and training.

Do you provide training for volunteers?
Yes, we offer ongoing training for our volunteers throughout the year.


What are the typical volunteer activities occurring at your organization?
Adult Literacy Voluneers Position Functions: (Duties and Responsibilities)
Provide instruction to adult learners developing basic literacy skills, including but not limited to reading, writing and numerical literacy.
Assist the learners' in setting and achieving individualized learning goals.
Abide by a confidentiality contract and a code of conduct agreement.
Approach learners with respect, flexibility and an open mind while inspiring a love of learning and community.
