The Victoria Human Exchange Society

The Victoria Human Exchange Society

The Victoria Human Exchange Society is a totally volunteer Society and registered Charity which was founded in 1992. This year, we celebrate 20 years of housing homeless men and women. The Mission of the VHES is to be a grass roots group providing friendship, transitional housing, support, and advocacy to impoverished persons working hard to solve their own problems. We encourage an "exchange of life's gifts" between people in different circumstances of life in particular between the House Owners, the Occupants, and the Society. We have no paid staff.

Our houses have always been rented from Owners who understand the need to house those who have no fixed address because of poverty, addiction, marriage break-up, unemployment, under-employment, mental illness and so on. Many of these Owners have entered into the spirit of our Society by keeping the rents as low as possible but all have had to raise the rent this year.
