Theatre Under the Stars (TUTS) is a not for profit society that entertains families through popular musical theatre shows while providing a vibrant outlet and training ground to develop amateur performers and technicians both young and old.

TUTS values an atmosphere of inclusion and mentorship in order to build strong character and to promote positive values.

Our productions are delivered by over 300 volunteers drawn from the community, requiring a broad variety of skills from board members to ushers to technical crew to cast and musicians!

Volunteer Information for Theatre Under the Stars

Do you have any age requirements?
Anyone at any age can volunteer! However, we require those who are under the age of 15 to be accompanied by an adult at all times.


What time commitment(s) are you expecting from a volunteer?
Front Of House Volunteers: These volunteers will be required for at least 5 performances (there is also a training period that we highly urge you to attend)\r|Running Crew/Back Stage: Need to be available for Tech Week, June 17-23, as well as for at least 50% of their shows' performances(approx. 15 shows)


Are there any specific skills and experience required?

  • It is important that you are familiar with TUTS, the site, and the schedule for the evenings you are working
  • Must be punctional for all shifts
  • Should have a friendly and positive demeanour
  • Should be very responsible and act appropriately at all times
  • Confident and positive when dealing with patrons, can troubleshoot problems with patrons

What type of volunteer positions are typically available?

Front of House Volunteers:ushering, coffee bar, bar, box office, ticket taking, membership services, administration

Running Crew:stage crew, follow spot, video op, lighting/sound, costumes, props


Is there any training provided for volunteers?
This year training will take place the first of July for all Front of House volunteers.

Here at TUTS, when you volunteer, you become part of a family. You get the opportunity to work with others who have a passion and drive for the arts. TUTS is a volunteer-driven organization, the show really can't go on without you

Perks of volunteering include complimentary tickets to a TUTS production, a closing night company party, a certificate of recognition, letters of reference, and crediting of hours towards the CAPP secondary school diploma requirement.


Do you accept high school students?
ABSOLUTELY! As well as letters of reference!
