The Tim Hortons Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival is a not for profit event founded in 1993. The organization held it's inaugural festival in 1994 with the assistance of the Hong Kong Canada Business Association. The first event lasted half a day with 25 teams participating. The Festival, which now boasts over 200 teams in competitive, corporate and community categories, is one of the hottest sporting and entertainment events in the Nation's Capital.

Recognized as North America's largest dragon boating festival the four day celebration offers free admission to multiple stages with world class programming, marquee concerts, amusement attractions, sports demonstrations, a variety of artisans, exhibitors, delicious culinary treats, beach-side bar, children's area and non-stop racing.

What services does your organization provide?
Festival Mission

To deliver North America's premiere Dragon Boat Festival. Offering visitors to and residents of Canada's Capital Region the opportunity to participate and engage in, the arts, sports, cultural, heritage and volunteer activities, significantly contributing to the tourism, economic growth, community engagement and cultural fabric of our diverse community.

Foundation History

In 1998, a charitable component was introduced to the Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival. In 2003, the Ottawa Dragon Boat Foundation was established to focus and grow the organization?s philanthropic efforts. To-date, $3.7 million has been raised through the Foundation's annual fundraising, benefiting 40 Ottawa area charities.

To help build, strengthen and enhance community life in Ottawa by raising, managing and distributing funds to charitable organizations.


Do you have any age requirements?
Volunteers under the age of 18 will require a signed waiver from a parent or legal guardian.


What time commitment(s) are you expecting from a volunteer?
Three four hour shifts consisting of 12 hours in total within the same section are what we encourage all of our registered Volunteers to commit to.


Are there any other requirements for being a volunteer?
Commitment.


Are there any specific skills and experience required?
Communication skills, interpersonal skills, team work skills and be willing to take the initiative would all benefit everyone.

Do you provide training for volunteers?
There will be an orientation evening in which Volunteers will all be provided with a handbook and other needed supplies as well as some additional information pertaining to the positions they will be involved with.
