United Way Estevan is a registered non profit organization that provides funding to 19 member agencies in the city of Estevan, Saskatchewan. A complete list of member agencies can be found at unitedwayestevan.com.

The commitment of the community's generosity to the United Way Estevan directly supports and enables these services to continue and expand. Our major fundraiser, United Way Estevan Telethon is held each October. It is the main source for funding the member agencies. This year's telethon will be held on October 12th and 13th. We invite you to join us live or follow us on Golden West Radio stations and Access Communications, Access 7. We'd also like to extend a welcome to anyone interested in volunteering at this year's Telethon.

Volunteer Information for United Way Estevan

What services does your organization provide?
United Way Estevan raises funds and awareness for local member agencies that provide services to clients throughout the community. A board of volunteers organize and run the Annual Telethon as the major fundraiser in support of these agencies. The board also organizes an annual Day of Caring event that invites the community to come together and volunteer their time to assist neighbors in need of help with tasks or social interaction. The United Way Estevan supports and volunteers at numerous community and educational events as well. In 2011, the United Way Estevan was proud to fund the Hillcrest Breakfast Club and Estevan Composite School SRC's Challenge Day program.


Do you have any age requirements?
There is no minimum age requirement for volunteering with the United Way Estevan. However, we prefer that students under the age of 18 be accompanied and supervised with an adult.


Do you require language proficiency other than in English?
There are no other languages required to volunteer with the United Way Estevan.


What time commitment(s) are you expecting from a volunteer?
We generally ask that volunteers are able to share at least 2hrs of their time with the project that they are volunteering for. However, we are grateful for any and all help that they can give.


Are there any other requirements for being a volunteer?
There are no set requirements for being a volunteer with the United Way Estevan. Individual circumstances may occur.


Are there any specific skills and experience required?
There are no specific skills or experience required to volunteer for the United Way Estevan. We welcome anyone willing to lend a hand and work towards making a difference in our community. Certainly any and all skills are an asset.


What type of volunteer positions are typically available?
We welcome anyone interested in supporting the community and projects that we participate in. There are no real positions just filling gaps as needed generally. However, United Way Telethon offers volunteers a range of opportunities to try their hand at; including, food services, receipt table, entertainment and assisting entertainment to name a few.


Is there any training provided for volunteers?
There is no specific training provided for United Way Estevan volunteers - other than hands on and explanation of duties required. There is always someone around to ask if one is not sure.


What are the typical volunteer activities occurring at your organization?
The typical volunteer activities for the United Way Estevan center around serving and assisting the annual events and community that we serve.


How will a person benefit from volunteering with United Way Estevan?
Volunteers with the United Way Estevan benefit from the act of becoming involved with a local organization that truly believes in the strength of community and offers individuals a helping hand.


Do you accept high school students?
United Way Estevan accepts high school students with adult supervision to assist and guide the volunteer experience.
