The reason: at VON Canada (Victorian Order of Nurses), we believe in treating the whole person, not just their ailment. VON offers more than 75 different home care, personal support, and community services to enhance each client's quality of life by providing them with the personal assistance and support needed to make them comfortable in their own home. We've been doing so for more than 114 years.

Volunteer Information for Victorian Order of Nurses

What services does your organization provide?
VON S.M.A.R.T. program offers an in-home exercise program consisting of a weekly 1 hour visit for 12 weeks which seniors (55 years of age and older) in maintaining quality of life and independance through physical wellness and accessibility. Improving practical fitness with a gentle exercise program geared to specific health issues can improve general health and decrease risk of falls.


Do you have any age requirements?
18 years and older


Do you require language proficiency other than in English?
Other languages is a definite asset.


What time commitment(s) are you expecting from a volunteer?
2 hour (includes travelling) a week for each session. a commitment of 6 months is appreciated.


Are there any other requirements for being a volunteer?
Vulnerable sector screening.


Are there any specific skills and experience required?
No experience necessary, a love for seniors is a must!


What type of volunteer positions are typically available?
In home exercise assistant

Congregate exercise leader.


Do you provide training for volunteers?
There is a 12 hour training session that is provided.
The coordinator offers education that include 6 modules, and other immportant topics. VON provides ongoing educational opportunities to assist you in your role and to introduce you to new opportunities and friends.


What are the typical volunteer activities occurring at your organization?
To support seniors with the 15 step exercise program.
Socializing with the client and having fun.


How will a person benefit from volunteering with Victorian Order of Nurses?
Experience! Education! Meeting new friends!
Our coordinator is a recreation therapist that can also provide education in this field.


Do you accept high school students?
Definitely accept high school students (must be 18years of age) , who are seeking to fulfill a graduation requirement for community service hours?
