What services does your organization provide?
Wellwood is committed to enhancing the quality of life for people living with and affected by cancer. We provide supportive care programs in a compassionate and healing environment. The care process emphasizes the uniqueness of each person and is conducive to exploring the physical, emotional, social and spiritual dimensions of a life-threatening illness. Our programs our client-driven, peer-facilitated and self-directive. All are free of charge.

Do you have any age requirements?
Minimum age requirement for organizational volunteers is 16 years of age.


Are there any other requirements for being a volunteer?
Volunteers are needed to assist with all of our programs and services. All are welcome, but a personal or family experience with cancer may enhance our volunteers' ability to fulfill their roles.


Are there any specific skills and experience required?
All of Wellwood's programs and services are delivered by skilled volunteers, who give generously of their time and talents. Volunteer program leaders are screened for their expertise and credentials.


What type of volunteer positions are typically available?
Opportunities exist for:

  • Peer Support Mentors
  • Office Support Volunteers
  • Support Group Facilitators
  • Committee Members
  • Therapeutic Touch Practitioners
  • Reflexologists and more.

Is there any training provided for volunteers?
Wellwood offers regular, ongoing training to its volunteers.

As an inclusive Centre, we especially wish to reach out to communities of colour, the aboriginal community, refugees, immigrants, persons with a disability, transgendered individuals or those from the gay and lesbian community.

Our volunteers undergo a rigorous screening process and orientation, which is a win/win for Wellwood and for our volunteers by ensuring a good fit between the individual and his or her volunteer role.
