Institution Profile

University of Bergen, located in Bergen, Norway, was established on April 9, 1946. Even though it is a very young university, it has made significant progress in the field of education and research. University of Bergen- Faculty of Medicine, established in 1948, is a good example of how much progress this university has made.

Presently, there are 1400 students enrolled at the University of Bergen- Faculty of Medicine. Out of these 1400 students, 200 are enrolled in PhD courses. Medicine, master programs in biomedicine, pharmacy, nutrition, international health, and health sciences are some of the study programs that are offered at the university.

University of Bergen- Faculty of Medicine provides a very strong foundation in research. Medical students can join research courses at the university. Some of the research fields that students can opt for include clinical medicine, biomedicine, and health sciences. The university already has well based research groups in molecular biology, experimental cancer studies, neurosciences, cardiology and circulation, and epidemiology.

Faculty of Medicine consists of six departments and one center. The Gade Institute, Department of Biomedicine, Department of Public Health and Primary Health Care, Department of Clinical Medicine, Department of Surgical Sciences, and Institute of Medicine are the six departments. The faculty also has a Center for International Health. Presently, more than 100 PhD and masters students are working at the Gade Institute. It offers research and teachings in the field of pathology, forensic medicine, bacteriology, virology, and immunology.

All the six departments offer excellent research and educational facilities in fields related to medicine and health.
