Institution Profile

The Royal College of Music in Stockholm is based in Sweden and has the distinction of being the oldest and largest college of music is Scandinavia. Courses are available for undergraduate and postgraduate programs for subjects such as jazz, classical music, folk music, music education, music & media technology as well as composition and conducting. These courses are designed with both tradition and experimentation in mind. A number of music-related courses such as, piano tuning and supplementary studies are also available.

There are a number of research opportunities also available at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm and students may pursue a PhD degree in music pedagogy. All students are also assigned a mentor to help them with issues relating to both academic and personal issues. Prospective students will have to undergo an examination and/or audition. The college offers its students a range of resources, which includes access to instruments like, grand pianos and pipe organs. There is also an extensive library of sheet music and CDs that students can use.

The Royal College of Music in Stockholm also holds a series of concerts on a regular basis. These concerts vary in genre and include classical, jazz and folk music. The college is also working in partnership with a number of businesses, NGOs and educational institutions, in order to spread the reach of music to other areas and industries. The college is also part of a number of international partnerships.
