The Academy of Hair Design Inc. established in 1985, is based in the province of New Brunswick. The academy covers a 6500 square foot campus, which includes a waiting area for clients, classrooms and practical work areas for students. Students are also provided with a works station that includes a hydraulic chair, barbacide and a complete set of tools. The academy currently offers a Cosmetology/Hairstyling course, which spans 44 weeks, beginning on the first Monday of every month. The courses consist of both theory classes and practical instruction on clients or mannequins. Guest speakers are also invited and there is a vast video library. The course aims to equip students with an insight to the challenges of working in the hairstyling business or operating a salon of their own. The Academy of Hair Design Inc. offers its students practical training in areas such as perming, highlighting, foiling and coloring. The academy already caters to a wide clientele and working with these clients provides valuable practical experience for the students. The course covers subjects such as bacteriology, sterilization, properties of hair and scalp, styling, waving, chemical treatments and skin disorders. On completion of the course, students must sit for a Certified Exam with the Cosmetology Association of New Brunswick. Financial assistance such as student loans and grants as well as payment plans are available.
