Art is something that appears in every facet of our lives. Whether itĘs the clothes we wear, the magazines we read or the movies we see, art is all around us. Needless to say, a career in general art is something that is rich in employment opportunities and offers tremendous scope for diversification into a number of fields. While talent and a natural flair for visual creativity are added advantages, a profession in general art also requires a lot of hard work and knowledge of a number of technical skills. In order to find a niche in this challenging field, a person must be both creative and aggressive, with up-to-date know-how on the latest equipment, trends and software to hit the general art arena. Those interested in pursuing a course in general art can opt for an intensive program that covers all aspects of art, from its history to critiques and seminars. From here, students can either opt for immediate employment or specialize in a wide range of options including animation, interior design or graphic design. Students will learn about drawing fundamentals such as aspects of shading, edges and perspectives. Students will later learn about 'seeing' their subject and applying the concepts of realism and illusion. Color theory and the use of different materials such as paints are also discussed. Students will also learn about the history of art, the different periods as well as prominent artists and their contributions. These courses will also cover drawing and painting studios and studio work as well as two dimensional design and later three dimensional design theory. The basics of photography and printmaking are also covered. Graduates may find immediate employment in the fields of advertising, television or digital media production.
