Established: 1964 (Originally called the College of Fisheries, it was renamed the Institute of Navigation, Marine Engineering and Electronics in 1984, and renamed the Fisheries and Marine Institute in 1992, but is today referred to as the Marine Institute).

The Marine Institute is a post-secondary institute specializing in career programs related to the fisheries and marine industries. The Institute offers bachelors and masters degrees, certificates, one-year advanced diplomas, and 2-year and 3-year diplomas. Additionally, the Institute has the Marine Pursuits, a marine summer camp designed to educate secondary school students about careers in the marine and affiliated industries.
The Marine Institute is part of the Memorial University of Newfoundland, and it is Canada foremost fisheries and marine training facility. The Institution is 1 of 5 public educational institutions in Canada to have the International Organization for Standardization’s “ISO 9001” rating, which is given to those organizations who consistently provide goods and services which are of high quality, efficient and continuously improving.
