Overview

Co-Run Directors are local Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation representatives in the community who provide the motivational and organizational leadership for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure to their local committee. Each Run site requires two Co-Run Directors to manage the organization and fundraising of the event in direct coordination with Regional Foundation staff.

Co-Run Directors work collaboratively with the regional offices of the Foundation to ensure that the systems, national procedures, and standards for the Run for the Cure are implemented, and overall goals of the event are met. In staffed sites, the assigned staff person(s) will work closely with the Co-Run Directors to ensure that their respective roles are clearly defined.

The efforts of the Co-Run Directors will empower local Run for the Cure committee members to increase involvement of volunteers, donors and participants to support the largest single-day, volunteer-led fundraising event dedicated to raising funds for breast cancer research, and education and awareness programs.


Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Oversees committee member screening and provides leadership through collaboration and positive example, creating an atmosphere where committee members fully participate, grow and develop their personal skills.
  • Works with committee members and Foundation staff to: - Ensure that committee members have the information and resources required to be successful in their role(s).
    - Monitor overall progress toward achievement of the desired outcomes and goals.
    - Identify and solve challenges.
  • Ensures committee members are aware of all Foundation Run for the Cure policies and procedures, including key messages, privacy legislation, risk management and minimum standards.

  • Commits to working with the committee to strive to meet the financial goals for the site. Management

  • Develops action steps to ensure national, regional and local initiatives are completed according to given timelines.

  • Prepares for, chairs and actively participates in, committee meetings and ensures action-items are recorded and distributed in a timely matter. Attendance at some sub-committee meetings may also be required.
  • Works with Foundation staff to implement the systems and procedures developed by the Foundation for financial management, registration tracking, and risk management.

  • Works with Foundation staff to ensure delivery of contractual obligations to national, regional and local sponsors at the Run for the Cure site including visibility, signage, and delivery of the awards program.

  • Administers and works within the overall local Run for the Cure site budget as determined by the Foundation guidelines, policies and procedures.

  • Acts as, or designates, a media spokesperson for the Run for the Cure as required.

  • Acts as, or designates, coordination of deliveries and shipping (some lifting may be required). Succession Planning

  • Initiates and leads the committee’s annual evaluation process and details recommendations for future years.

  • Ensures that committee members create and maintain an organized hard-copy and electronic folder, or other system, of information that includes contracts, applications, timelines, letters, important communication, as well as lists for teams, distribution, and sponsor contacts which will serve as a record for the event in future.

  • Submits the compiled information, along with other relevant Run for the Cure site information, to the Foundation to provide a local history for the Run for the Cure site.

  • In conjunction with Foundation staff and committee members, develops a plan to address succession planning and the long-term viability of the committee. Relationship/Communication

  • Acts as the Foundation’s representative in the community.

  • Is the liaison between Foundation staff, the local Run for the Cure Committee and the community.

  • Works with Central and Regional staff to maintain, protect and strengthen the image of the Foundation and its relationships with all Foundation stakeholders, including donors, sponsors and volunteers.

  • Participates in conference calls to ensure that important information is received and communicated to the relevant committee members.


  • Experience and Qualifications

  • Interest and proven experience in volunteerism at a committee leadership level.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent planning, management, delegation and follow-up skills.
  • Have access to a computer with internet, computer skills required.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Agree to the Foundation’s Code for Volunteer Involvement and sign the Run Director Agreement.
  • Access to a vehicle.
  • Logistics relevant experience: Event and/or project management, business communication, demonstrated negotiation skills.
  • Fundraising relevant experience: Personal or professional fundraising, sales and/or marketing, business communication.
