Overview

Job Summary: Troubleshoot, inspect, service and repair machinery, implements and other equipment as needed Determine extent of repair required, adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts, Test repaired equipment for proper performance. Core Competencies: Reading Comprehension, Problem Solving, Deductive Reasoning, Mechanical Aptitude, Manual Dexterity, Communication Skills, Basic Math and Computer Skills. A reasonable level of physical fitness is necessary due to the heavy tools and machinery a Mechanic handles on a daily basis.


Responsibilities


  • Diagnose faults or malfunctions using computerized and other testing equipment to determine extent of repair required
  • Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts, components or systems
  • Service attachments and working tools as needed
  • Set up and perform pre-delivery inspections (PDI's) of machinery and equipment
  • Disassemble and reassemble machines, engines, transmissions and other equipment
  • Examine and listen to equipment, read inspection reports, and confer with customers to locate and diagnose malfunctions
  • Test repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that work meets specifications, make adjustments as necessary
  • Clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment
  • Attach components and adjust new equipment
  • Test and replace electrical components and wiring

  • Experience and Qualifications


  • A combination of work experience/education in the trade and some high school, college or industry courses in heavy equipment repair
  • Basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals
  • Mechanical knowledge of machines and tools, including designs, uses, repair and maintenance
  • Knowledge of gasoline, diesel, and/or electrically powered equipment, hydraulic equipment, wiring schematics, pressure washing equipment, and interpret resulting data; standards for design and maintenance; hydraulic pumps, motors and valves;
  • Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions. Apprentices may apply for this or other opportunites.
