Overview

Join our team! 3 senior internships, 3 full-season novice internships, and 2 short-term novice internships - Learn organic food production hands-on. - Become an integral part of our food community. - Develop your farming skills and knowledge. - Participate in the Collaborative Regional Alliance for Farmer Training (CRAFT Ontario). We are seeking individuals who have a keen desire to learn the practices and principles of growing food organically, who are interested in building friendships and community, who are enthusiastic, curious and open to new ideas. We are committed to making this internship a learning experience, and we expect hard work, commitment to the guiding principles of our farm, and the ability to work as part of a larger team. The farm team is made up of 8 interns, 4 farmers (Heather Lekx, Lorne Jamieson, Donald Bowyer, and Mike Smith), and numerous volunteers. We will be working closely together over the season and aim to make this a healthy and challenging experience.


Responsibilities

Interns can expect to be involved in: greenhouse management, seedling production, bed preparation, tractor work, weeding, transplanting, harvesting, overseeing CSA distribution at pick-ups, attending periodic Core Group gatherings, participating in educational activities structured around intern learning objectives, and cooking lunches for the farm team. Senior Internships In addition to the Novice intern activities, Senior interns take on specialized roles in education planning, harvest logistics & produce sales, field crop production, perennials management (berries, asparagus), orchard care, community garden plot management, and volunteer coordination: Education - coordinates all educational activities pertaining to the farm, and maintaining materials for enhancing the educational experience of the broader CSA community. This community includes, but is not limited to, farm interns, CSA members and farmers. Harvest Logistics & Produce Sales - works closely with the market coordinator planning CSA harvests, managing the CSA farm store and restaurant sales. Field Crop Production - works with the Fields Manager from seeding to harvest of grain and other field crops. Perennials - manages our perennial crops, including strawberries, raspberries and asparagus. Orchards - works closely with the fields manager to maintain a 6 acre organic orchard. The orchard is primarily apples, but also includes pears and cherries. Community Garden Plots - oversees the community garden plots on the farm, including plot preparations, and liaising with the gardeners. Volunteers - coordinates our working share CSA members and volunteers.


Experience and Qualifications

1 year farming experience fit willing to learn enthusiastic
