Overview

The Arthritis Society is Canada's principal arthritis health charity dedicated to funding and promoting arthritis education, research-based solutions and community-based support. The Society empowers 4.6 million Canadians with arthritis to live their lives to the fullest by combating the daily limitations of arthritis. In the last 65 years, The Society has invested more than $180 million towards arthritis research to develop better treatments and, ultimately, find a cure. Reporting to the Community Education Coordinator, the Bilingual Outreach Coordinator is responsible for helping raise the profile and awareness of The Arthritis Society, its programs, events and activities through recruitment and management of volunteers who will in turn deliver our core programs to a variety of rural and urban areas.


Responsibilities

Operating within The Arthritis Society core education programs and services, the Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for establishing an Outreach Advisory Committee and recruiting and training seniors or related to deliver Arthritis education programs such as lunch and learns, speaker's bureau presentations and chronic pain management workshops. This individual will establish relationships with senior organizations and residences, church groups, service clubs and other community groups both in rural and urban areas to help with the identification of potential volunteers. The successful candidate will also build on existing relationships with health professionals in targeted areas. The Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for planning which programs to offer in what areas of the province, assist in marketing designed to help recruit volunteers and will develop an evaluation program for feedback with the Volunteer Advisory Committee as well as program volunteers.


Experience and Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a post-secondary degree or diploma or one in progress. A diploma in volunteer management is an asset. The successful candidate must be bilingual in both English and French. The coordinator must be a proven self-starter with the ability to work independently. The ideal candidate has strong and effective oral, written and presentation skills, is proficient with Microsoft (Word, Excel, Access & Outlook), has experience recruiting and supporting volunteers, and a proven ability to initiate and manage multiple projects. Experience working with seniors, program evaluation and partnership development an asset. Experience within a related field such as education or health is an asset.
