Organization: University of Alberta, the ABMI and Nielsen Lab Position: Rare Plant Technician Salary: $2500-$3500/month; Travel, accommodation and food will be provided while in the field. Start Date: Flexible, summer 2013 Job Description: Rare Plant Technicians will conduct vascular plant surveys at remote sites in northeastern Alberta to augment existing monitoring, to test new methods of monitoring rare plants, and to better understand factors affecting patterns of plant rarity in the boreal forest. Fieldwork will be completed by a team of 2 from late June to late August. While training is provided, we are looking for people with well-developed vascular plant ID skills. Duties outside of the field season will include assisting with planning field logistics, general prepping for field work, training, and data processing.

Experience and Qualifications

-Strong vascular plant identification skills -Background or education in botany, horticulture, biology, ecology or related -Previous field work experience (including data collection, GPS & navigation, ATV's, and working in remote conditions) -Willingness to work long hours and an atypical schedule for part of the summer -Valid Class 5 Drivers License
