Overview

The Department of Civil Engineering at the Lassonde School of Engineering, York University invites applications from qualified individuals for a tenure-track position at Assistant or Associate Professor level in the area of Water Resources Engineering. Candidates for the Associate Professor rank must demonstrate significant academic and/or industrial experience. The appointment will commence on July 1, 2016, subject to budgetary approval. Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to develop a strong, externally funded research program and supervise graduate students. The successful candidate will also have the ability to participate in partnerships with industry and/or other public institutions and demonstrated expertise and leadership in teaching and curricular innovation at the undergraduate and graduate level.


Experience and Qualifications

We are looking to appoint a highly motivated candidate who will lead the Department's goal of establishing a multi-faceted research program on water security, water quality, and sustainable use of water resources in the context of climate change and variability. The successful candidate will have demonstrated research expertise in one or more of the following areas: assessing the impact of climate change and variability on surface and ground water resources; developing techniques for achieving water use efficiency in agricultural, rural and urban settings; water distribution and management systems; developing tools and techniques for numerical simulation and prediction of natural and engineered hydrological systems. The successful candidate will also play a key role in the teaching of undergraduate and graduate courses in fluid mechanics, hydraulics, hydrology, hydraulic structures, water security, and water distribution and management systems. The successful candidate must have a PhD in Civil Engineering or a closely related field; be eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer in Ontario; and, be eligible for appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies. The ideal candidate will have post-doctoral and/or industrial experience and a demonstrated track record of excellence (or a clear promise of excellence) in teaching, research and professional practice.
