Overview

We are seeking an outstanding individual for an alternate-stream (teaching-focused) tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering. The primary responsibilities of the successful candidate will be the teaching of undergraduate courses and the delivery of undergraduate projects and laboratories. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in various activities related to the undergraduate programs, such as accreditation, serving on committees, providing leadership in engineering pedagogy, interacting with the industry to enhance the students' experiential learning activities, devising and implementing technology-enhanced learning techniques, supervising other persons engaged in teaching, and undergraduate program administration.


Experience and Qualifications

The successful candidate should have a first degree (BASc, BEng or equivalent) in Civil Engineering and a PhD in Civil Engineering or a closely-related engineering discipline. The successful candidate must be able to provide documented evidence of excellence in teaching and demonstrate commitment to pedagogy with the potential for programmatic leadership. The successful candidate should also be eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with the Professional Engineers Ontario. The successful candidate should preferably have a demonstrated ability to interact with the industry, a track record in undergraduate teaching and curriculum development, experience in leading capstone design and other project-related courses, and enthusiasm for exploring modern trends in engineering education (for example, web-based distance learning, MOOCs, etc.). All York University positions are subject to budgetary approval.
