Introduction
Established in 1959, the Faclty of Law at the University of Western Ontario, often referred to as "Western Law," located in London, Ontario, is among the elite law schools in Canada, and its graduates have one of the highest job placement rates in the country. The Faculty, which is most expert in business law and taxation, information and technology law, intellectual property, and international, foreign and comparative law, is most notable for having the highest proportion of professors 'with earned doctorates, and its publication rate is among the highest in the country.' The Faculty is also noted for being a leader in pioneering education for First Nations students including offering the latter special admissions status and financial, academic, and cultural support such as courses in Aboriginal Law and a First Nations Student Services office. The aim of these activities is to increase the presence of First Nations’ individuals in practicing law in Canada, a field in which they have been traditionally underrepresented.
