Sue Uteck (BA ‘86) has been named the first female Deputy Mayor for the first time in the history of Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM). Her fellow HRM councilors voted for her in a secret ballot. She is honoured to have been elected for the big position. Her late husband, Larry Uteck, was elected the deputy mayor in October 1998. Saint Mary's University is known for its community outreach projects, both in Canada and around the world.
