Moody, who has served as Deputy Chief of the Niagara Regional Police Service since February 2001, will assume the position of Director at the University, beginning in January 2007. Moody, 51, has 32 years of dedicated and progressive experience with the Niagara Regional Police. Gary Nicholls, outgoing Director of Campus Security Services at Brock, will leave his position at the University at the end of this year. Nicholls, former Chief of the Niagara Regional Police, joined Brock in April 2005 after retiring from policing in 2004. While at Brock, Nicholls played a key role in developing an emergency services plan for the University. He also helped to co-ordinate the University's transition to a community-based security model, drawing upon his past experiences developing community-oriented policing within Niagara. "The quality of leadership that Deputy Chief Moody brings to this position will build on the positive contributions made by Gary (Nicholls) over the past year and a half," said Steven Pillar, Vice-President, Finance and Administration. "Her extensive policing and organizational experience will be a welcome addition to the University's security team, which endeavours to enhance the quality of life on the campus by working co-operatively with the community." Born and raised in Welland, Moody began her policing career in Welland in 1974. Throughout her career, she has served in all three major Districts in the Niagara region: St. Catharines, Niagara Falls and Welland. She has expertise in the field of criminal investigation, which includes areas such as intelligence, drug investigations, major crime, youth, undercover assignments, training and professional standards. Moody's command experience was obtained in 1 District, St. Catharines, Detective Support and Executive Services since her promotion to Inspector in 1996. She attended the Niagara College Law and Security Program prior to joining the Niagara Regional Police Service and she is also a graduate of the F.B.I. National Academy in Quantico, Va. She is currently completing a Bachelor of Arts degree at Brock. Moody was recently presented with the Ontario Women in Law Enforcement's "Heritage Award" for Lifetime Achievement in Law Enforcement and in 2000, she was the recipient of the International Association of Women Police Award, "Excellence in Performance." She is a current member of the Board of Governors at Niagara College and served as Chair for the 2005 Ontario Special Olympics summer games in Niagara. Upon being named the new Director of Campus Security Services, Moody stated, "I'm pleased to join the campus security team at Brock and I look forward to using my experience and expertise to support the University's commitment to security and safety on campus during this critical point in its development."
