Cognos (Nasdaq: COGN; TSX: CSN), the world leader in business intelligence and performance management solutions, and the University of Ottawa School of Management announced today a partnership to enhance business management education and research in the area of performance management. The School of Management will create new courses in performance management in all of its graduate programs, using it as an integrative theme through simulations and hands-on application of leading-edge tools. Cognos has pledged over C$1 million in financial and gift-in-kind support over three years toward the creation of a performance management-focused faculty position as well as investments in software and services to support teaching in the classroom.

"Performance management has become a critical management discipline for businesses because it better aligns goals with technology and best practices to enable organizational agility," said Rob Ashe, Cognos president and chief executive officer. "This is a key partnership for Cognos as it shows our commitment to higher education and furthering research in the performance management industry. We look forward to working with the University of Ottawa to develop strong students and innovative research in this important field."

As a result of this financial gift, the University of Ottawa School of Management has created a new faculty position – the Cognos Professor in Performance Management – to help implement the performance management concept as a core and integrative theme in its professional graduate programs. Dr. Greg Richards, the newly appointed Cognos Professor in Performance Management will initiate a research program focused on performance management and its impact on organizations in the corporate, public and health care sectors.

"As performance management becomes a pervasive element to global business today, the addition of this discipline within the School of Management will provide our students with the knowledge they need to succeed in business today," said Micheál J. Kelly, Dean of the University of Ottawa School of Management. "The extensive performance management expertise that Cognos brings to this partnership will make an immediate impact on the School of Management. Through this partnership, I look forward to working with Cognos to create a performance management discipline that is as innovative as it is compelling to our students."
