UNBC Celebrates Academic Achievers

November 7, 2006

Nearly 50 of the top Grade 12 students from central BC will be participating in an Academic Achievers event at UNBC tomorrow, which is being held to reward them for their academic achievements to date. Students are attending from Valemount, McBride, and Prince George secondary schools: PGSS, College Heights, DP Todd, Duchess Park, and Kelly Road.

Organized by School District #57 and UNBC, the annual Academic Achievers event is open to students who achieved straight A’s (or all A’s and one B) during grade 11. The students will spend the afternoon at UNBC, in advance of an awards ceremony that will be hosted by UNBC President Don Cozzetto and School District Superintendent Brian Pepper.

Academic Achievers Schedule:

Noon Luncheon hosted by Howard Brunt, UNBC Vice-President Academic and Provost

1:15pm Tour of the campus

2:30pm University-style lectures by UNBC professors Kathy Lewis (Ecosystem Science and Management) – Beetlemania: Fact, Fiction, and the Future Patrick Maher (Resource Recreation and Tourism) – Penguins, Polar Bears, and People Robert Budde (English) – So You Have a Novel Stuck in Your Head Ken Prkachin (Psychology) – Lie Detection

5:00pm Awards ceremony in the Atrium of the Administration Building

The Academic Achievers event is sponsored by CIBC, the Coast Inn of the North, Deloitte & Touche, Heather Sadler Jenkins, Integris Credit Union, and KPMG LLP.
