Brandon University/Brandon University Faculty Association: Parties Settle Grievances - Brandon University, Jerry Hemmings and the Brandon University Faculty Association reach an amicable agreement

November 9, 2006

BRANDON, MB – Brandon University, Professor Jerry Hemmings and the Brandon University Faculty Association are pleased to announce that all outstanding issues between Professor Hemmings and the University have been resolved.

"I am happy that we have been able to find an amicable agreement for the sake of everyone who has been affected. It is now time to create a new history with Brandon University," said Professor Hemmings.

Both Brandon University Board Chair Jake Janzen and President Dr. Louis P. Visentin are pleased at the resolution, citing Hemmings’ positive contributions to the Brandon University basketball program over the last 28 years.

Professor Hemmings became a legend in coaching ranks by winning 734 games in his career. This is a record unsurpassed by any coach in the CIS and is in the upper ranks of coaching victories in North America. Prof. Hemmings has been granted the special designation of Coach Emeritus by the Brandon University Board of Governors, and will continue in his position as a tenured Full Professor in the Department of Physical Education. In addition, Prof. Hemmings' winning record and National Championship successes will be recognized in a special recognition dinner to be hosted by the University in April 2007 in celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the first Bobcat Men’s Basketball Team National Championship in 1987.

BUFA President, Bruce Forrest commented that " BUFA is pleased that a settlement has been reach which is agreeable to all parties. The designation of Coach Hemmings as Coach Emeritus is certainly well deserved, given the success of members of the Bobcats both on and off the court."

Prof. Hemmings is the first individual recognized with the designation of Coach Emeritus by the Brandon University Board of Governors.
