Medical Students from Across the Province Converge at Western

London, ON. - Nearly 500 medical students will attend the Ontario Medical Students Weekend 2005 at Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry at The University of Western Ontario.

The annual student-run conference for medical students from across Ontario starts with a gala dinner tonight at Museum London, followed by workshops, speaker events and other social activities on Saturday and Sunday.

The theme of this year's conference, "Medicine in the Media: Medicine is the Message", acknowledges how media serves as a connection between Canadians and their perceptions of the health care system. Participants will take part in a diverse set of activities to explore the realities behind media-saturated topics ranging from crime scene investigation to the adrenaline filled rooms of the ER.

The conference, hosted each fall by an Ontario medical school, is designed to provide a forum in which pre-clinical medical students can experience learning opportunities that go beyond the scope of their academic studies. It also gives them a chance to interact and meet their future colleagues.
