Winthrop Pickard Bell: New Publications and Virtual Exhibition

SACKVILLE, NB — Mount Allison University is very pleased to announce two new publications: Guide to the Winthrop Pickard Bell fonds and the Hazel Deinstadt Bell fonds and Bell Family: Selected Biographical Sketches and Bibliographies. These publications grew out of two years work on the arrangement and description of the W.P. Bell papers (fonds d’archives) and will serve to introduce researchers to this archival fonds and to the Bell family.

In addition a new virtual exhibition titled Winthrop Pickard Bell: Man of the Maritimes, Citizen of the World will be featured on the Mount Allison web site www.mta.ca/wpbell following its official launch on October 20. This virtual exhibition will provide international access to biographical information on Bell and is intended to increase research interest in this important Mount Allison graduate. Dr. Bell is best known for his scholarly work on the "Foreign Protestants" and the settlement of Nova Scotia.

These projects have been carried out by Mr. David Mawhinney, Winthrop Pickard Bell Archival Resident 2003-2005. Gratitude is expressed to the Marjorie Young Bell Endowment Fund Committee whose support made the completion of these projects possible. These new publications and selected documents from the W. P. Bell fonds will be on display in the Ralph Pickard Bell Library October 19 through November 16.
