Source: Trinity Western University http://www.twu.ca/news/view-specific.aspx?newsID=527 Letter from the President - TWU hosts The Great West Life Spirit of Christmas Celebration!October 27, 2006 Our Trinity Western community has an exciting opportunity this year to provide an environment of peace, joy and reflection as we host the Spirit of Christmas Celebration on our campus December 1st & 2nd. I am pleased to share that the costs for this free event have been generously covered by the title sponsors Great West Life, and by generous donations and support from Sodexho and our media partners Rogers Omni. The Great West Life Spirit of Christmas Celebration is part of the larger "Christmas in the Valley" initiative which is an extensive television, radio and print cross-marketing campaign aimed at promoting and positioning the Fraser Valley as a Christmas destination for lower mainland families. TWU has joined alongside media, merchants, municipal governments, and community groups to create a community-wide Christmas celebration, and our two day event here on campus is our opportunity to celebrate and invite the greater community to share with us in the true essence of Christmas. Come wander through a beautiful winter wonderland complete with live theatrical nativity scenes featuring members of our talented theatre department (there will be real animals I'm told), have your soul filled with festive and inspirational music including our exceptional Trinity Western Choirs, and the Pacific Mennonite Children's choir and Vancouver Soul-Gospel choir or cozy up with some warm apple cider and hot chocolate as you walk under a canopy of twinkling lights. There are so many quality events, too many to mention here, but please check out the celebration's website at www.twu.ca/christmas for a detailed schedule. Also, on December 2nd, approximately 250 of our students wearing festive Spirit of Christmas scarves will be lending a helping hand across the Langley community on a variety of volunteer projects. From supervising the traditional Salvation Army donation kettles to handing out "unexpected gifts," our students will be a visible extension of our greater TWU community. Faculty and staff are also encouraged to join with our students in these volunteer efforts. If you can't be part of the volunteering initiatives, there are opportunities for staff, faculty and TWU associates to sponsor and decorate a Christmas tree. Sponsored trees will line the cafeteria and atrium. It gives me great joy to be a part of an academic institution that can share the beauty of our surroundings, our tremendous spirit and our talents with our community. I invite you, your friends, family and work associates to enjoy the many events that will be spread across these two festive days. My prayer is that through our talents, friendship and service our neighbours will experience the restorative character and peace of Jesus Christ. See you December 1st & 2nd! Blessings. Jonathan S.
