Nipissing Nursing Professor to Speak at Fall Lecture Series

Oct. 6, 2005 - Nipissing University's Dr Aroha Page has been invited to speak at the upcoming Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW) Bracebridge Fall Lecture Series on Wednesday, October 12th. This year’s theme is Famous Historical Figures. Dr. Page's talk is entitled "Florence Nightingale - the Passionate Environmentalist" and she will address approximately two hundred students from the Muskoka region.

Dr. Page's lecture will discuss the history of some of Nightingale's work in the areas of the environment, spirituality and hygiene. Florence Nightingale was a national heroine who made significant contributions in the areas of applied statistics, methodology, philosophy, theology and spirituality, and women’s issues. Nightingale is particularly well known for formulating the central principles of a public health care system in the 1860's.

The proceeds from the event will go to the CFUW Charitable Trust Fund to assist Muskoka students pursuing post-secondary education.

Dr. Page is an Assistant Professor in the Bachelor of Science Nursing program at Nipissing University and holds a seat on the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing (CASN) National Standing Committee for Scholarship and Research.
