Located in the state of Ohio, the University of Toledo was founded in 1872 and offers over 250 undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs. These programs cover a range of fields including engineering, education, medicine and business. Accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, the university currently has over 15,000 students enrolled.

The Department of Undergraduate Legal Specialties of the University of Toledo offers a Bachelor of Science degree and an Associate of Applied Science in Legal Assisting for students looking to become professional paralegals or legal assistants. The paralegal program has been declared ' Program of Excellence" by the State of Ohio and is approved by the American Bar Association. The courses are conducted by lawyers and judges in the recently-constructed McQuade Courtroom, which allows students to become familiar with a courtroom setting.

The courses cover subjects relating to office management skills and the basics of the legal system and how it works. Students also learn aspects of psychology, sociology and comparative economic systems. In order to sharpen their skills, students can also join the Mock Trial team, which competes with other institutions on a regional and national basis.
