Employment Resources and Professions Available to Control Engineering Graduates

As control engineering is a subspecialty within other engineering disciplines, graduates of this type of program can find employment pretty much in every field. They can work in private industry such as biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, or agriculture, where they design procedures to get that industry's product to market.

Control engineers can also work in academia, teaching control engineering in a variety of departments depending on their specialty (eg. chemical, mechanical, or electrical engineering). Research performed at post-secondary schools is usually in conjunction with private or government-funded companies.

A common place for control engineers to find work is in chemical processing plants, where they are responsible for ensuring that the process being used to create the desired product is feasible, safe, efficient, and adaptable. Such people are usually chemical engineers and there is considerable overlap in the two disciplines.

Control engineers can also work in the computer and software industry, where they create programs for a variety of purposes, and solve problems that may arise with existing software. Once again, these people are usually already another type of engineer (in this case, computer or software engineers, see relevant articles), and are using their control engineering experience to aid in various projects.
