Employment Resources and Professions Available to Electrical Engineering Graduates

Electrical engineers can find work in all industries where electrics are in use. Electrical engineers are employed by utility companies, communications companies, and manufacturers of electrical and electronic equipment, consulting firms, and a wide range of manufacturing, processing and transportation industries.

They can develop systems on a very small scale, such as the microchips used in computers and other electronic devices. They can also develop systems on a very large scale, such as designing, maintaining, and troubleshooting the grid for electrical power generation and distribution. They can also prepare design specifications, project reports, and cost estimates for various electrical projects.

People with a electrical engineering degree can use this for future studies in management (eg. acquiring an MBA) where their knowledge of electrical systems is an asset to this profession. Some become medical doctors to apply their expertise in electronics and signal processing in developing or using biomedical devices. Others become lawyers to apply their technical knowledge in handling patents and other legal issues involving intellectual property.

Graduates can also purse an advanced degree in electrical engineering or related disciplines. These degrees permits training in more advanced technologies, and provides the opportunity to carry out original research. As well, an electrical engineering degree can be used to attain the professional engineering (P.Eng) designation.
