100in1Day Halifax

This citizen-driven festival will unite people across the city to make Halifax a better place by creating acts of urban change.

These acts, or interventions, have the potential to raise awareness of urban and social issues, inspire ideas, and motivate leaders to consider new approaches to old problems.

This is presented by Evergreen and supported by community partners projectxity and Ecology Center. Along, media partner Spacing.

Volunteer Information for 100in1Day Halifax

What time commitment(s) are you expecting from a volunteer?
When & where: Participate in some in person meetings in Halifax. Commitment from March through to May/June is ideal, but not required, and anywhere from 1 hour to 25 hours a week (whatever fits your schedule) leading up to 100 in 1 Day, Saturday, June 7.

Are there any specific skills and experience required?
What you bring: You're committed, enthusiastic and optimistic. First and foremost, you identify as a citizen - although perhaps you are a dreamer, a city-builder, a community organizer, or a do-er. Perhaps you are seeking to build your capacity, learn by doing, get involved with your city, build a network, be part of a community, and contribute to an amazing event. Seeking team leaders in each area as well.

What type of volunteer positions are typically available?
There are a variety of volunteer opportunities for this one day event.

What if hundreds of citizens united, each putting in place the projects and changes they want to see in their city all on the same day?
That is the goal of 100in1Day, a social movement originating from Bogot , Colombia, which has inspired citizen-driven change on a significant scale, transforming cities over a 24 hour period. On June 7th, there will be at least 100 urban interventions taking place throughout Halifax using volunteers for every step - from planning to staging each intervention. Help lead the charge to transform our city by becoming a Citizen Activator.

Citizen Activator functions include:

Logistics:
You are a natural event planner that likes being on the ball, managing, answering questions, giving instructions and trouble-shooting and as a resident, you know the city well. Logistics activators will manage the planning, logistics and delivery of the 100 in 1 Day event. Commit to all of the big day on June 7.
Workshops & Interventions:A natural host, you create a warm, safe, and comfortable space for conversation. You will empower participants to lead an urban intervention and ultimately facilitate the magic of 100 in 1, at workshops hosted in 2014. Workshop activators will manage the scheduling and hosting of the weekly workshops and provide support to Intervention leaders on June 7.
Outreach:You love meeting and talking to people, reaching out and raising awareness to things that are important to you, getting people excited about events, issues, or opportunities. You have your ear to theground, know a network of people, or are comfortable building it by reaching out to others. We want all walks of life to partake, and you know how to reach out to them! Outreach activators will research and help spread the word.
Communication:A social media huckster, you have an online presence, blog, tweet or update daily. You know how to tell a story, build an online community, refine others' words, and create a call to action. You will be building the online presence and support of 100 in 1 Day and managing online communication through blogging, tweeting, and updating statuses. Communications activators will bring writing and/or graphics skills to the table.
Documentation:You love photography, capturing moments, opportunities, and interactions in a way that others enjoy interacting with. You can create a narrative out of images, and enjoy communicating that story to others. You feel comfortable behind the camera, and let people and moments shine because of it. Documentation activators will come with skills in photography, videography, editing and/or image sharing online.
Resources:You are the capacity-building chef; by adding the missing ingredients, you create a masterpiece. You know how to optimize an idea; take it that one extra step, connect a dot, or link something together. Resource activators bring strengths in fundraising, PR and/or volunteer development.

Do you provide training for volunteers?
How we'll support you: Attend an information session and orientation/training prior to starting. We will familiarize you with the event, the organizations behind it, and the roles involved. We will provide you with a network of resources to help you carry out your team's functions.

How will a person benefit from volunteering with 100in1Day Halifax?
Expand your network and better understand what your role in the city's ecology can be; get directly involved in city building in non-traditional ways; learn a ton and be part of an amazing team
