Volunteer Information for All Breed Canine Rescue

What services does your organization provide?
ABCR rescues dogs (and cats) from the London and St. Thomas City pounds. We provide vet care, including heartworm testing, spay/neuter, vaccines, parasite treatment and microchipping. Many of the animals come to us with horrific illnesses and injuries. We do not euthanise unless the animal is mindlessly aggressive or terminally ill. We rely 100% on a foster home program to shelter the dogs and cats until they are adopted to new homes. Adoption fees apply, but don't even begin to cover the csosts we incur to save these animals.

Our biggest challenge is having enough foster homes to look after the dogs and cats until they are adopted. We provide all the evt care, pet food, and supplies. We cannot pull a doomed dog from a pound without having a open foster home. We also need help with transportation of animals to the vet or transferring to other rescue groups, picking up supplies, and gerneral errands. We need help at fundraising events as well.

Do you require language proficiency other than in English?
No.

What time commitment(s) are you expecting from a volunteer?
The time involved will depend on the volunteer's ability to contribute, and what the volunteer role that they are playing.

Are there any specific skills and experience required?
We need volunteers who are professional and pleasant, able to work within a team environment under chaos, showing initiative and able to problem solve within guidelines. Obviously the love of aniamls and experience with cats and dogs is helpful, but not necessary.

What type of volunteer positions are typically available?
Foster homes, transportation, fundraising.

Do you provide training for volunteers?
We have a buddy system, and due to the fast pace and no facility, ABCR uses email and texting to keep up. We provide a foster manual.

How will a person benefit from volunteering with All Breed Canine Rescue?
This is a great opportunity to see front line animal rescue, work within a fast paced team, and learn about animal health and behaviour.

Do you accept high school students?
Yes.
