We are one of 13 Bereaved Families of Ontario affiliates throughout the province of Ontario. We are the only local resource whose primary mandate is to provide bereavement services to families where a child has died. We have been providing suport to the Hamilton and Burlington communities since 1988. We support at least 650 families each year. Our dedicated volunteers donate over 3000 hours each year.

Do you have any age requirements?
Volunteers must be 14 years of age or older. A Criminal Records Search may be required of the successful volunteer candidate.


Do you require language proficiency other than in English?
Proficiency in English is required. Knowledge of additional languages may be an asset.


What time commitment(s) are you expecting from a volunteer?
Bereaved Families of Ontario - Hamilton/Burlington offers a variety of volunteer opportunities requiring varying levels of commitment.


Are there any other requirements for being a volunteer?
Our program model is distinctive in that all parent group facilitators are bereaved parents who have participated in one of our support groups at some time and have since been professionally trained to become group facilitators.

Bereaved Families of Ontario - Hamilton/Burlington works with over a hundred volunteers to deliver outstanding programs and services. Through our Volunteer Management Program, we strive to match volunteers with available positions which meet their needs and interests. What type of volunteer positions are typically available?
Volunteer positions include office support, program delivery, and assistance with fundraising.


Do you provide training for volunteers?
New volunteers receive comprehensive orientation to Bereaved Families of Ontario. Full training and ongoing support is provided to all volunteers.Our program model is distinctive in that all parent group facilitators are bereaved parents who have participated in one of our support groups at some time and have since been professionally trained to become group facilitators.


What are the typical volunteer activities occurring at your organization?
Volunteer activities include, but are not limited to, support group facilitation, office support, fundraising support, assisting with special events, serving on the board of directors.
