Volunteer Information for GIVE International

What services does your organization provide?
Volunteers with GIVE International provide human, material, and financial resources to projects focusing on health care, education, and child development. We are committed to coordinating safe, well-organized and meaningful volunteer opportunities for Canadians interested in building cross-cultural relationships while learning about East Africa's development challenges and successes through hands-on experience.

Do you have any age requirements?
Anybody between the ages of 18-75 can volunteer. You must be eligible to enter East Africa on a tourist visa, be in good health, and be flexible with an open mind to learn from different cultures.

Do you require language proficiency other than in English?
The official languages of Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania are English and Swahili. Volunteers who want to make a positive first-impression can also learn basic Swahili greetings.

What time commitment(s) are you expecting from a volunteer?
GIVE volunteers should be available to commit a minimum of two-weeks to a maximum of three-months to our volunteer program.

Are there any other requirements for being a volunteer?
Volunteers are expected to fundraise to support their volunteer experience abroad.

Are there any specific skills and experience required?
GIVE volunteers support health, education and child-development projects. While some of our health-related projects require volunteers to have specific skills/experience, our child-development and education placements are wide-ranging and can accommodate volunteers with diverse backgrounds and interests.

What type of volunteer positions are typically available?
To learn about GIVE International's volunteer positions, please visit: www.giveintl.org.

Is there any training provided for volunteers?
GIVE International has full-time staff in Canada and in East Africa that provide volunteer support, orientation, and training. Our staff visit and assess all placements, facilitate your orientation, oversee your accommodations, and provide monitoring and advice whenever needed. All of our volunteers receive regular visits while in their placements.

What are the typical volunteer activities occurring at your organization?
To learn more about GIVE International's volunteer activities, please visit: www.giveintl.org.

How will a person benefit from volunteering with GIVE International?
GIVE International believes in the reciprocal nature of the volunteer experience: developing communities (and projects) are supported in reaching their goals and Canadian volunteers receive a first-hand international development education.

Do you accept high school students?
High school level students are welcome to participate in GIVE's volunteer program if they are travelling as part of a school group, with proper adult supervision.
