Volunteer Information for LotsaDogs Rescue

What services does your organization provide?
Adoptions, consulting on dog behaviour, rehabilitation of dogs and seminars, fundraisers etc

Do you have any age requirements?

  • We can use joggers, runners, bikers in the whitby/durham region area to take a dog with them.
  • Volunteering needs to be regular as the dogs DO know days and the time.
  • We need people to work with the dogs too, pick up poop, mop floors and do general things.
  • We do NOT need people who break equipment and say nothng, we do not need people who arrive late or not at all, we dont need anyone looking to mark time.
  • We need volunteers for future bingo nights and to be present at fundraisers like 6 Legged Hike in May and Xmas in Sept each year.

Do you require language proficiency other than in English?
No

What time commitment(s) are you expecting from a volunteer?
Mornings any day.
All day for seminars or fundraiser, as need basically for events.
We need people to be able to go to buffalo once a month or so to pick up rescue dogs and bring them here - clean dr record a must as we provide cargo van for transport. Requires drivers licence (enhanced) or a passport as well.

Are there any other requirements for being a volunteer?
Abiltiy to think on their feet - see something needs doing and doing it.

Are there any specific skills and experience required?

  • We need people with driver's licences to take dogs to vets and groomers.
  • We need phyically active people who do not have back pain wrist pain, blah blah blah pain. If you're in pain we have no use for you sorry but it's a fact.

What type of volunteer positions are typically available?
All positions are same, jack of all trades basically

Is there any training provided for volunteers?
Yes as much as possible but again - it's busy and we dont have time to hold hands - no one is left alone with dogs they cant handle but volunteers need to watch, try and do it.

What are the typical volunteer activities occurring at your organization?
It's all listed above from picking up poop, to running to mopping floors, driving.

How will a person benefit from volunteering with LotsaDogs Rescue?
They will learn more about dog behaviour than they ever thought possible, they will get exceptional customer service skills, they will learn about alternative medicine. They will learn to think outside the box

Do you accept high school students?
Rarely. Few drive, all rely on parents and we can not have people arrive late just cuz their parents couldnt get it together.
We review on a case by case basis
