Institution Profile

University of Helsinki - Faculty of Law belongs to one of the oldest educational institutions in Europe and Finland. The University was established in the year 1640, as the Royal Academy of Turku. The institution offers programs in Finnish, Swedish and English. The Faculty of Law comprises of three Departments, the Department of Public Law, Department of Private Law and Department of Criminal Law, Judicial Procedure and General Jurisprudential Studies.

University of Helsinki - Faculty of Law offers both undergraduate as well as graduate programs in Law. Students can take up a Bachelor's [3 years] and Master's [2 years] degrees in Law. Students are also offered two postgraduate research degrees, the Licentiate of Law [2-3 years duration] and the Doctor of Law [4 years duration] degrees. An International Master of Law Diploma is offered in English for national and international students, as a one-year full-time program. A part-time program is available for students, who need a flexible educational program that can be completed in two years time. Students can also opt for a joint program offered in association with University of Leicester and the Utrecht University. Students are trained in research and the strong relationship the institution maintains with local firms help students. The Faculty of Law offers about 50 courses, with English as the medium of instruction.

University of Helsinki - Faculty of Law receives a number of exchange students due to Erasmus, Nordplus and bilateral exchange agreements. The institution has a library that provides students with ample materials for research. There are provisions for students to study and they can even access the internet. The European Credit Transfer System has been adopted.
