Institution Profile

University of Lapland - Faculty of Law was created in the year 1979 and has been involved in research and education in the various fields of Law. It is one of the five faculties of the University. The Faculty comprises of three Institutions. They are the Institute of Commercial Law, Institute of Air and Space Law, and the Institute for Law and Informatics. It is involved in the Socrates/Erasmus program, Nordplus program, as well as receives students through its bilateral cooperation agreements. The Faculty offers a variety of programs in English for these students, each year. These programs are offered in a series of seminars, lectures, and group work.

University of Lapland - Faculty of Law's the Institute of Air and Space Law, is the only institution of its kind in the Nordic region. It is also one of the three centers of excellence on air and space law in Europe. It has established relationship with the International Astronautical Federation, European Center of Space Law, and International Academy of Astronautics.

University of Lapland - Faculty of Law offers students a chance to take up Bachelor's and Master's degree in Law as well as postgraduate studies such as, earn a Licentiate in Laws and a Doctor of Laws degree. Students can also take up the Master of Comparative Law Program, which is however not a part of the Finnish degree programs and its medium of instruction is English. It has established relationship with several international universities such as, the University of Aberdeen, University of Nottingham, Universität Basel, and the Université de Bretagne Occidentale, Brest.
