Institution Profile

University of Oslo- Faculty of Medicine has been with the university ever since it was established in 1811. Faculty of Medicine was one of the four original faculties of University of Oslo. Faculty of Medicine is well known in Norway and also internationally. It has done great work in the fields of neurobiology, transplantation immunology, nutritional science, and cancer research. Faculty’s main focus is in medical training and research. However, in recent years it has also introduced nutritional science, health care administration, nursing, and rehabilitation study programs.

At present, University of Oslo- Faculty of Medicine has 2000 students, 1200 of which are studying for Medical Doctor Degree. It offers masters and PhD degree programs in various fields in medicine. The faculty also offers several programs and courses in English.

All the study programs offered at the Faculty of Medicine are well structured and designed to equip students with the skills necessary in their respective fields. International Community Health Master Degree Program is a good example. The program equips students with the skills necessary to become international community health researchers. They are well equipped to participate in community based health promotion, health service delivery, and disease prevention.

Students can also enroll in PhD degree programs at the University of Oslo- Faculty of Medicine. Upon successful completion of the doctoral degree course at the Faculty of Medicine, students become qualified for research activities and for work that require high level of scientific insight. In order to get admission to a doctoral program at the university, one should have successfully completed a five-year Norwegian master’s course or equivalent.
