Institution Profile

The Karlstad University was granted the status of a full fledged university in the year 1999. However, the history of its foundation dates back to the year 1977. The university is situated in the heart of Värmland.

At present, there are almost ten thousand students studying a variety of subjects in the various programs offered by the Karlstad University. However, this number of students represents only the students enrolled in undergraduate and graduate course programs. Apart from offering undergraduate and graduate courses, the Karlstad University also offers a wide range of courses in doctoral studies. The total number of students enrolled in the doctoral level courses is two hundred and sixty at present.

As per the current statistics, the total number of staff including both academic as well as administrative staff in the Karlstad University is almost one thousand. Out of this number, the number of highly qualified lecturers and researchers is almost seven hundred.

The Karlstad University runs all its academic and administrative activities through just one campus. It is a large campus with a modern learning environment. The university offers eight hundred courses in fifty two different disciples. There are fifty degree programs and almost twenty advanced degree programs offered by the university. The university is organized into four different faculties. The courses are offered in Economic Sciences, Communication and IT, Technology and Science, Social and Life Sciences, and Arts and Education.
