Institution Profile

Established in Stockholm in 1909, the Stockholm School of Economics was founded by a number of like-minded businessmen who were looking to improve the local business community and bring it to an international standard. Today, the university maintains close links with the business community. It is the first university in Sweden to receive accreditation from the European Quality Improvement System.

Students at the Stockholm School of Economics can choose from undergraduate and postgraduate study programs for business and economics. An executive MBA program and full time MBA courses are also available. The university offers two PhD programs in business administration and economics, econometrics & finance. In place is an executive education program that allows employers and business managers to come together and work towards increasing productivity.

The Stockholm School of Economics has a number of research projects in the works. Currently about 300 researchers are working on projects which are based at several different institutes. The university has a well-equipped library that contains course text books as well as reference materials. Students can also access a number of online journals and databases and there are special materials available for visually impaired students.. Students writing their Master's thesis can obtain special help from the library and can gain individual assistance through an appointment. Material not available at the library can be obtained from other libraries in Sweden or other parts of the world.
