Umeå University - Umeå Institute of Technology was established in 1997 and is part of the Faculty of Science and Technology which has more than 850 faculty members of which about 650 are teaching staff or those involved in research. The Faculty of Science and Technology comprises of nine departments, two institutions and several research centers. The Umeå Institute of Technology concentrates on research in the fields of Life Sciences, Information and Interaction Technologies and Sustainable Societies and it has established relationship with several industries.

Umeå University - Umeå Institute of Technology offers six Bachelor and six Master of Science programs in Engineering as well as three vocational programs. The institution also offers a variety of other single subject courses and several IT programs. As the institution is located within the University campus, students have access to a world-class research library. The institution is involved in several research projects in conjunction with the Umeå Center for Interaction Technology.

Umeå University - Umeå Institute of Technology offers students a chance to earn a Master's degree in Biotechnology and Engineering Genomics training them in subjects such as bioinformatics, medical biotechnology, and plant biotechnology. Programs such as Energy Engineering, Interaction Technology and Design, Engineering Physics, and Computing Science and Engineering are also popular with the students. The students who take up the Engineering Chemistry program can also specialize in chemistry/pharmaceutical chemistry. The various Bachelor of Science degrees follow an international curriculum and are taught by some of the leading experts in the field.
