The Academies is a private career college that has been offering courses in beauty and spa treatments over the past twenty years. It is located in the town of Moose Jaw in Saskatchewan, Canada and is a member of the National Career College Association and the Saskatchewan Association of Career Colleges. Students who wish to apply should have completed at least Grade 10 for the Aesthetics course and Grade 11 for the Cosmetology course. Every class has a maximum of 10 students. The Academies' facilities include a beauty salon and a spa with the latest equipment. Students are given hands-on training and get to work with actual customers. The course comprises 30% Theory Classes, 77% practical experience and 3% off-campus training and field trips. The aesthetics course consists of modules on skin care, facials, eye lift treatments, reflexology, make-up, pedicures, aesthetic chemistry, retailing, massage, and natural alternatives. The cosmetology course includes topics on haircutting, styling, scalp treatments, and coloring. The Academies also offers advanced courses and private classes for working professionals who want to upgrade their skills. A graduate from The Academies usually gets a job in the colleges’ network of spas and salons. Others work on cruise ships or film sets or start their own businesses. A few companies that have employed students from The Academies are Temple Gardens Mineral Spa, Manitou Hot Springs and Steiner Leisure Cruise Ships.
