Premised 'on a broadly defined concept of investment,' Simon Fraser University's Master of Business Administration in Global Assent and Wealth Management is a 16-month program, including 4 months of co-operative learning, designed for individuals aspiring to a career in investment management. The Program's primary goal is to provide students with 'the engineering ability to build an investment portfolio' and 'the architectural skills to understand and serve the broader wealth management needs of their future clients.' These goals are met through a curriculum that is created and updated through a dialogue between SFU's faculty and the representatives of the financial industry, which are members of the University's Business Council, that ensures the Program is relevant in the real world. Additionally, students are afforded several opportunities to garner a real world experience in applying what they learn prior to graduation via the Wealth Management Practicum, which enables students to 'gain real experience in providing investment counseling to several individual and institutional investors,' the Student Investment Advisory Club, which allows students to manage 'Canada's largest student run fund,' and internships, which take place in the third semester of the program. Students are also afforded the opportunity to earn a Chartered Financial Analysts (CFA) designation while earning their respective MBAs. |
