Astronomy and Astrophysics Topics and Concepts in Canadian Universities
What do Astronomy and Astrophysics Students Learn? Because of the recent connections between cosmology and elementary particle physics, astronomy has remained integrated with physics when other complex disciplines (such as geophysics) have acquired a life of their own in separate departments. Many universities in Canada do not in fact offer “astronomy” degrees, but rather combined “astronomy and physics” degrees. Specializations include optical, radio, particle, and theoretical astronomy, and certain universities may be well-known for one in particular. Those interested in a more focused approach to astronomy may wish to choose their university carefully, while also considering the research and projects being undertaken, and the facilities available.
