Prerequisites for Graduate Studies in Bioethics

Dalhousie University, while having a Department of Bioethics, does not at this time offer a degree in Bioethics. The Department of Medicine at Queen's University offers an MD specializing in Palliative Care and Bioethics. The Biomedical Ethics Unit at McGill University offers an MSc degree in bioethics.

Admission to the MD program requires 3 years of study in any university program, and at least 1 full credit in each of the following groups: biological sciences, physical sciences, and humanities or social sciences. All applicants are required to write the MCAT (medical college admission test). Only Canadian citizens or landed immigrants are allowed in this program.

Admission to the MSc program requires a previous MD, Nursing, or other health profession degree. Letters of recommendation and a sample of written work are required for final admission.
