Current research in developmental psychology explores many aspects of development in children, adolescents, and the elderly.

Researchers use a variety of research methods including questionnaires, computerized tasks, videotaped interactions between adolescents and parents or peers, and physiological activities such as heart rate.

Bullying is a current hot topic in developmental psychology. Research is focusing on relationships amongst children, adolescents, and adults, as well as the risk associated with bullying in family, school, and social relationships. This research is aimed at understanding bullying as a relationship problem and providing relationship solutions. Researchers are working collaboratively with those in education to increase their understanding of the development of bullying and victimization, the role of peers and educators, and the design of programs for bullying problems.á

Infant cognition studies how infants and young children perceive the world around them. Current studies are exploring topics such as how infants and children discriminate objects, how they interpret the behavior of others, how they evaluate and engage in social behavior, and how they come to understand artifacts such as tools and maps. Language and cognition studies are also currently underway to gain an understanding of children's understanding of age-related knowledge development. This includes phonological cues in grammatical learning, the role of perspective in language processing, and eye movements as an implicit measure of children's memory and attention.
